Biography

Paulien Van Overmeire is a light soprano, born in Brussels (Belgium).

She graduated cum laude Master of Arts (MA) of Music at the ‘Royal Conservatory Brussels’ (KCB). After her studies in Brussels she studied at the ‘École Normale de Musique de Paris – Alfred Cortot’ with her singing teacher, Daniel Ottevaere.

Currently she studies also with the soprano Gabrielle Philiponet.

 

As a child, Paulien was already very fascinated by classical music and began at the age of  seven to play the harp with her teacher Marta Szabo. She obtains her higher degree certificate at the Academy of Music in Anderlecht (Brussels) with great distinction and the greatest distinction for music ensemble. She also obtained the special prize ‘Ferdinand de Poppe’.

 

During her studies she passed the audition for the MM-Academy of La Monnaie (choir academy) and took part at several productions under the direction of Alain Altinoglu, Benoît Giaux, Antonello Manacorda,…

 

Paulien is also interested in Chambermusic and sings in two duos: duo Melpomena (harp and voice) and duo An enCHANTed FLUTE (flute and voice).

 

Her first opera role was Barbarina of ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ by W.A. Mozart, directed by Daniel Ottevaere at the opera company ‘I Giocosi’ in Paris.

 

From than on she was part of different projects, such as the summer academy of La Petite Bande directed by Marie and Sigiswald Kuijken in Collevecchio, the role of Phani of ‘Les Indes Galantes’ by J.-Ph. Rameau, directed by Luigi de Angelis and Korneel Bernolet as conductor at the Music Theatre Transparant in Antwerp,…
